Where is Deptford?

Deptford is on the south Bank of the River Thames, a little way between historical Greenwich and bohemian Bermondsey. It shares many parallels with its neighbours – including a rich maritime heritage and a cornucopia of age-old pubs and hipster-friendly eateries. But it’s got an identity all of its own all the same.

Deptford big-hitters

Deptford High Street is regarded as one of London’s liveliest. The start of it’s marked by a giant, lopsided anchor (it was the first of the Royal Docks). Its quarter-mile stretch is home to a stunningly beautiful Baroque church and a great selection of Vietnamese restaurants, butchers and pie and mash shops. Its street market is old-school Eastend at its best. Completely devoid of organic juices and sour dough – this is noisy, wonderful bric-a-brac territory.

Not far from the high street is Deptford Market Yard – a cluster of independent stores and restaurants, huddled beneath the railway arches of Deptford station. Little Nan’s is a much-loved cocktail bar where the tipples are served in teapots. And the area is often playing host to pop-up events like art exhibitions. Speaking of which, Deptford is a hotspot for creatives, thanks to its plentiful studios, galleries and the esteemed Albany Theatre.

Deptford was named after its creek, and its Creekside Discovery Centre is a great place to take little ones. The district is also home to a handful of parks, including Brookmill Park and Deptford Park – the latter sprawls over 17 acres and boasts a children’s playground and a picnic seating spot.

New developments in Deptford

Deptford’s surge in popularity has resulted in a multitude of new apartments and houses. First-time buyers, especially, are loving Anthology’s Deptford Foundry. This smart new-build teams stylish, contemporary apartments with a selection of artists’ studios – all built on the site of an old metal foundry. Rated one of the best places to live in Deptford.

The concierge is really helpful and will accommodate any requests you may have. Overall, there aren’t any aspects which I can think of which would have improved the buying experience. Thank you Anthology, for making my first property purchase a special one!” – Ben, verified resident at Deptford Foundry

Georgia and the rest of the team made the buying experience stress free and extremely positive. As a first time buyer, they were always helpful with any queries I had, and the communication throughout the process has been excellent. The development itself is really well done, and I am extremely happy with the apartment. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience or team to help me with buying my first home.” – Ryan F, verified resident at Deptford Foundry

Union Wharf is an upcoming new-build from Build to Rent pioneer, Essential Living. Its twin towers have nabbed a prime setting overlooking Deptford Creek, and will house one, two and three-bedroom apartments. A great place to rent in Deptford!

Transport

Deptford has no Underground station to speak of, but its Zone 2 location means it’s still well-connected. From Deptford station, commuters can reach London Bridge in less than 10 minutes, Farringdon in under 20 and King’s Cross in 23. Deptford Bridge and Elverson Road are other alternatives, both of which offer direct services to Canary Wharf.

With its edgy credentials and handy London links, it’s no surprise it is having a moment in the spotlight. And while the developers are moving in thick and fast, it shows no signs of losing the character and charm it’s known for.

Its a very convenient location for me as I work in Canary Wharf, so I can walk or take the DLR. Most days I walk under the Thames and love the route there. Waitrose is across the road and all the usual shops are 8 mins near the Tube station. The main road can be noisy from time to time but nothing that keeps me up at night and only with the window open. The Duke is my local pub serving some of the best Pizza in London (try the four cheeses!)

Please review your development:

The over design is great and makes a good first impression to any visitors, the lobby always smells amazing and you can be sure to get what ever help you need from the friendly staff any hour of the day. I love that I can always be sure my Amazon packages are safe and that should I feel like being around people I can read or play pool in the communal area. I hosted my first dinner party on the roof and it was a hit, especially the view.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

To ignore the bad reviews on Google – they are clearly people who had an axe to grind – I’ve not experienced even on of the things moaned about.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Yes, the whole team is great and the online support system as well as email works perfectly well for my needs.

It is a great experience, very comfortable development

The location is good, just a 10 minute walk from the DLR stations. Greenwich town has plenty of restaurants, pubs and bars and the Greenwich Park is so close. Traffic noise is ok, and the Wharf in front of the building is not very loud (being on the top floors)

Please review your development:

The building is clean, and all facilities are clean too. The gym is spacious and there’s always machines available; which is a big plus. Price is reasonable, and the fact that utilities are centralised is a big win. The reception is great, and the team is very amicable; with a very well worked system for parcel delivery. The common areas are nice.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Everything was very well explained, no surprises. The team did a great job.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Always quickly and being very kind. The response time is almost immediate, booking an engineer and always trying to accommodate to requests on schedule.

Fantastic living

Review Date Apr 2024

Living in this apartment for two years has been a genuinely delightful experience. The apartments themselves are of high quality, offering everything you need for comfortable living. From a well-equipped kitchen, a cozy balcony, pleasant rooms, to efficient bathrooms, and just enough storage space – it’s been designed keeping a tenant’s comfort in mind.

What truly sets this place apart, however, is the incredible management and maintenance team – Vivian, Caroline, John, and their team. Their friendliness and professionalism significantly enhanced our living experience, making it feel like more than just a place to stay.

Our decision to leave was driven by our desire to explore life outside London further and, admittedly, the increase in rent, which went up by more than 10% in the first year and was slated for a 13% hike the following year. This was the only downside in our otherwise wonderful stay.

Please review your development:

Another notable advantage is the apartment’s proximity to public transport. With two underground stations to choose from and nearby train stations, commuting is a breeze – London Bridge is just a ten-minute journey away. Plus, having a lovely park right in front of the building added a nice touch of nature to our urban living experience.

In summary, if you’re looking for a high-quality apartment complemented by a supportive and friendly team, and don’t mind the potential for rent increases, this is a fantastic place to live.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Steep (and above market) increases of the yearly rent

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Yes, immediatly. Never any problems, always very fast and reliable.

The neighborhood is lovely. Being close to the park and Thames places nature a lot bit closer, which is something I appreciate. Restaurants, bars and grocery shops for every taste. In terms of public transport it works perfect fine having DLR, train station and buses running 24/7.

Please review your development:

Leaving at Union Wharf – CP is incredible. Staff makes the difference, knowing you by name and always being super kind.
Facilities keep getting better. New gym, yoga room and office space are to die for. I’m very passionate about the building and love living here.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Always quickly and with kindness. The staff is definitely one of the best things about living at CP.
