Milton Keynes

Just 50 miles to north east of London, Milton Keynes was devised as a ‘new town’ in the 1960s and continues to evolve and grow today. Famed for its roundabouts and district grids, the town has benefitted from a steady flow of new residents from London. House prices have seen strong growth, with amenities and schools now plentiful and high quality. Housing is more varied than its reputation might suggest, with everything from period properties in historic villages to new build homes in chic developments.

Areas to consider

Areas in Milton Keynes with more of a village-feel include Middleton and Loughton. These offer historic homes as well as new build properties. Bradwell and the Shenley Villages are also worth considering if this is what you’re looking for.

Slightly further out, areas like Wolverton and Bletchley offer a good mix of property types, while Willen is a popular spot for property hunters wanting to live close to the lake. Central Milton Keynes is great for modern rental developments, like Grainger’s Solstice Apartments – our highest-rated development in MK so far.

“We love living in Oakgrove. We moved here to be in one of the best school catchments in MK. Our children go to Monkston primary school and now will be in catchment for Oakgrove secondary school which is a great school.” – Everett, Verified Resident, Oakgrove Village

Transport

Milton Keynes offers outstanding transport connections, both locally and nationally. Six rail stations serve the main urban area, including Milton Keynes Central, Wolverton and Bletchley – all on the West Coast Main Line. The fastest services into London take just 35 minutes.

The M1 motorway connects Milton Keynes with the Midlands and the north, as well as southwards through Luton into London. Luton Airport provides the nearest options for both domestic and international flights, while extensive bus services provide excellent local connections between the various estates and the centre of MK.

“Very close to the shopping centre and short walk to the park. Incredibly convenient to get on M1 in terms of commuting.” – Ed S. Verified Resident, Solstice Apartments MK9

Reviews

Solstice apartments is a great place to live as the apartments are very modern and well furnished with good views of the centre. The location is ideal with it being right opposite the shopping centre and close to bars, pubs and restaurants.

We moved from South Africa to the area last month and have so far been nothing but impressed with the houses, facilities, shops, schools and roads.
– Loren R, Verified Resident on HomeViews, Oakgrove Village

Housing has been planned well in that there are plenty of green areas and parks, with the sound from the motorway almost non existent. It is located in the catchment of good schools and is well located for commuting, being close to the motorway, coach station and railway. There are a good selection of shops nearby and restaurants are located slightly further away, but still within walking distance.

Walking distance to Stony Stratford which is fantastic for local amenities. Lots of choice, character and independent businesses. Lots of community events. A great place to live.

Very nice and modern, but too expensive with bad parking and no phone signal!

The apartment is located centrally which is great for shopping/going for dinners etc. however, sadly, as it is so close to some ‘rougher’ areas cars often get broken into and walking alone at night nearby is an absolute no go! Parking is rubbish – you either park ages away with a resident permit, park right outside with a council permit for £55 a month or pay £40 a month to park in the car park – not ideal considering it’s quite expensive to live there anyway.

Please review your development:

Overall it’s a really nice place to live and it’s nice to have a reception concierge on weekdays! Any problems within my apartment have always been resolved quickly which is great! However, I got absolutely NO phone signal in my flat which made life very difficult! I think this is ridiculous considering the price of the place – given this I’d never move back to be honest.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The non existent signal and the fact you can’t open your windows past 5cm (which causes the flats to feel like a greenhouse in the summer!)

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Always very quickly and anything resolved ASAP – very happy with this.

As new developments go, this is a good one!

The location of the development is good, only a short distance away from Kingston where there are a number of restaurants, shops including a large supermarket and a new gym.
The development is a 5-10 minute drive away from the centre of Milton Keynes where there is a large selection of bars, restaurants and retail outlets.
In terms of transport links, the M1 is a very short drive from the development, as is the A421 which provides access to the A1 within 30 minutes. Milton Keynes Central train station is also only a 10 minute drive away.
In terms of the street itself, we have not encountered many issues. Our neighbours seem nice and we haven’t come across any anti-social behaviour. Having said this, the development is still under construction so we do have to put up with a lot of noise from building work during the week. In addition, the proximity to the A421 does mean that road noise is fairly constant. This is not something that has impacted on us too badly, you become used to the steady stream of traffic in the day time. The main issue with this has been at night when groups of loud cars seem to decide to congregate.
The only other problem we have encountered living here has been the bin collection has been inconsistent. Most weeks it is collected at some point in the day that it is scheduled to be taken, but on a number of occasions it has been collected a day late, sometimes two days. This is led to issues with rubbish bags being scattered around the development due to wind or vehicles.

Please review your development:

The design of the development is quite aesthetically pleasing, but of course this is a matter of personal opinion. The two different colours of brickwork on the housing makes it more interesting than some developments where all properties within it look the same. I feel as though the L&Q homes have a more premium look in comparison to alternative developers in the vicinity.

However, the biggest thing that sets L&Q apart from their competitors’ homes is the standard of finish inside the properties. All fixtures and fittings are of exceptional quality, all included, and we are very proud to live in our new home.

There have been one or two issues that have arisen since we moved in but L&Q have always ensured we have been supported with these, not always immediately, but the job has always been done eventually.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wish I would have known that the road noise was as loud as it is at times. However, this would not have impacted on my decision to move here as the quality of home is exceptional.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

They have always responded to any problems we have raised. Sometimes this has taken longer than we would have liked, but each of the issues has been resolved in the end.

Very close to junction 13 on the motorway. Close to central Milton Keynes and grocery stores. No close public transport. a lot of parking availability as big drive and near to none traffic noise

Please review your development:

Love our house. Modern facilities and large main bathroom as bath and shower are separate. A lot of cupboard space in the main bedroom but near to no room at all in the kitchen. the fridge is the size of a kitchen cupboard

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Nothing else to say! lovely property

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

They responded very well and fixed everything that needed fixing.

Located across the Milton Keynes mall, close to essential shops, pubs and local park.

Please review your development:

The property is managed by very nice people, who care about keeping the building hospitable and lovely to live in. The terraces are very well maintained, as well as the gym and other social areas.
I particularly like the reception staff and possibility to store your parcels if you are not home to pick them up.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I fell in love with the views from my apartment window. This will make it very hard to consider other options and has set a very high bar for future places.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

The building management were very quick to reply and take action when contacted. They were also kind to follow-up and make sure my problem was resolved.
