Milton Keynes

Just 50 miles to north east of London, Milton Keynes was devised as a ‘new town’ in the 1960s and continues to evolve and grow today. Famed for its roundabouts and district grids, the town has benefitted from a steady flow of new residents from London. House prices have seen strong growth, with amenities and schools now plentiful and high quality. Housing is more varied than its reputation might suggest, with everything from period properties in historic villages to new build homes in chic developments.

Areas to consider

Areas in Milton Keynes with more of a village-feel include Middleton and Loughton. These offer historic homes as well as new build properties. Bradwell and the Shenley Villages are also worth considering if this is what you’re looking for.

Slightly further out, areas like Wolverton and Bletchley offer a good mix of property types, while Willen is a popular spot for property hunters wanting to live close to the lake. Central Milton Keynes is great for modern rental developments, like Grainger’s Solstice Apartments – our highest-rated development in MK so far.

“We love living in Oakgrove. We moved here to be in one of the best school catchments in MK. Our children go to Monkston primary school and now will be in catchment for Oakgrove secondary school which is a great school.” – Everett, Verified Resident, Oakgrove Village

Transport

Milton Keynes offers outstanding transport connections, both locally and nationally. Six rail stations serve the main urban area, including Milton Keynes Central, Wolverton and Bletchley – all on the West Coast Main Line. The fastest services into London take just 35 minutes.

The M1 motorway connects Milton Keynes with the Midlands and the north, as well as southwards through Luton into London. Luton Airport provides the nearest options for both domestic and international flights, while extensive bus services provide excellent local connections between the various estates and the centre of MK.

“Very close to the shopping centre and short walk to the park. Incredibly convenient to get on M1 in terms of commuting.” – Ed S. Verified Resident, Solstice Apartments MK9

Reviews

Solstice apartments is a great place to live as the apartments are very modern and well furnished with good views of the centre. The location is ideal with it being right opposite the shopping centre and close to bars, pubs and restaurants.

We moved from South Africa to the area last month and have so far been nothing but impressed with the houses, facilities, shops, schools and roads.

Housing has been planned well in that there are plenty of green areas and parks, with the sound from the motorway almost non existent. It is located in the catchment of good schools and is well located for commuting, being close to the motorway, coach station and railway. There are a good selection of shops nearby and restaurants are located slightly further away, but still within walking distance.

Walking distance to Stony Stratford which is fantastic for local amenities. Lots of choice, character and independent businesses. Lots of community events. A great place to live.

It is a great area right in the centre of Milton Keynes, yet the building does not allow ay of the noise from the city centre in. The Almere has also partnered with most of the restaurants, shops and gyms around us to provide great discounts and benefits to all tenants.

Please review your development:

The building is bright and elegant. The facilities are wonderful, always clean and with people enjoying their daily living. The management team is always around and happy to help. Any deliveries get placed in myrenzbox which makes life a lot easier for all residents.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That there is a great sense of home and community.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Always happy to take responsibility and fix anything that has or could go wrong in the future. Very quick and efficient.

There are a large range of bars/restaurants on the doorstep in The Hub, and central Milton Keynes shopping centre is a 5 minute walk. The train station is under a 10 minute walk. There is a large supermarket across the road as well.
Parking is available on-site but currently there is a waiting list for this, but resident permits are available with plenty of parking with a 5 minute walk.

Please review your development:

Good – the location is great for access to Central Milton Keynes shopping centre, the train station, and is very close to lots of bars/restaurants and a large supermarket. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the amenities are great with gym & cooking classes, a good sized co-working area including sound-proof booths.

Bad – After living here for nearly a month I have nothing negative to add.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wish we knew that we could have access to the underground carpark to unload our stuff when moving in.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

One of the switches on a plug socket didn’t work and this was investigated and resolved really quickly.

Hello Rhys,

the quality of the materials are great but the problem is the labour

The good: new residential construction, very modern, very nice organisation.
The bad: no shops in the very near vicinity

Please review your development:

I love my property, the quality of the materials are great but the problem is the labour, it’s a luck on that, you have to check properly.
I bought the property a bit outside the central area which I love, and if you have children or want soon I think is something you should consider, also because it’s a residential area everyone can use cars but is not like proper streets for high speed which makes it safe.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I was expecting to have shops around much quicker, also to much dust because is still in construction.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

They tend to respond but until you get what you expect from them takes a bit of a time…

Nice estate but beware of very poor build quality

Average, there a local Waitrose and costa that’s it. Good location to get into central MK. Some anti social behaviour with petty theft and graffiti. Also lots of litter all over the estate.

Please review your development:

Terrible build quality and equally terrible property management. I’ve been waiting over 3 years for Crest/NHBC to repair my property which leaks in large amounts of rain water. There is lots of mould as a result. This is all due to Crest not following building regulations and NHBC not bothering to inspect the property properly.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wish I’d known how low the build quality was by Crest. I wouldn’t of purchased the property had I known.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Yes but not to an acceptable standard. The build management company care as little as Crest and NHBC about their customers.
