Having lived in Beetham Tower for three years prior to moving into West Tower, I was lucky enough to see the buidling go up and was immediately struck by the fantastic external surfaces/cladding design patterns which give the building a strong sort of sci-fi sort of look which woudn’t have looked out of place in the Blade Runner films or Metropolis!
The facilities both in the building and in my Apt are excellent. So much so that during my Covid shielding lockdown period of 17 weeks earlier in the year I had enough room (much larger than my previous Apt) to walk around the perimeter of my Apt to get some exercise which helped keep me sane!
It’s great to have building management people on site 24/7 to fix any issues which are always completed speedily & efficiently. Regarding my Apartment I was allowed to make changes to the Internal decor (Blackout blinds & adding a projection screen) when I moved in and staff were always on hand to help out with securing tall furniture to walls etc.
The best part of the service though was the support provided by the Concierges, Lettings Staff & Managers is that everyone was always on hand to help and go the extra mile if necessary. This includes a Lettings Agent doing my shopping / collecting my repeat prescription for me on a regular basis without which I would have not have been able to stay at home during my shielding period.
The reason I moved into West Tower from Beetham Tower was the increase in apartment space, the reduced leasing costs and the up-to-date modern facilities available including 1Gb Fibre-Optic Broadband & SKY Q. Finally being able to rent the Apt unfurnished helped me to relocate a significant amount of personal belongings from my local storage space which had languished there for the last 3 years which enabled me to make considerable savings.
Having owned several houses in and around Manchester for 25 years and having rented 3 apartments in Manchester for the last 6 years or so, I feel strongly that whereas I would call the other Apartments ‘temporary accomodation’ that the West Tower with all its superb amenties & great staff is somewhere I can finally call ‘home’ again.
Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:
Likes: – Great location distance-wise for the Metrolink which gives ‘on the doorstep access’ to the whole of Greater Manchester and beyond. Obviously fantastic access to some of the best restauarant & bars in the NW, if not the country. These premises seem to be in a contsant state of flux, if something doesn’t quite prove succesful then it is replaced in a short space with something invariably better and more cutting edge. Manchester has finally been succesful in securing a Michelin star for the first time in 50 years for the ‘Mana’ restaurant in the Northern Quarter (NQ). The renowned Observer food critic, Jay Rayner has highly recommended a wide range of eateries in Greater Manchester which is always a good sign that Manchester is now firmly on the UK ‘foodie heaven’ map. The range of bars available in Manchester (especially in the NQ) is second to none.
Dislikes: – A minor point, as ever, there are a considerble amount of new tower buildings being built in Manchester at the moment, some of which are very close by. In the main the noise created from these new builds is barely audibale in my Apartment if the 3 Door/Windows are kept closed, but when open it can sometimes get very loud. This is only a minor issue though and doesn’t impact on the living experience.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
My superb Lettings agent fully covered all aspects of the Apartment facilits with me prior to signing the lease and so there is nothing I can think of that falls into this category!
If there is one thing you would change about your flat or property what would it be:
The only thing I would change would be for the Apt to have Air conditioning installed. Both last summer & this have seen fairly extreme temperatures which, even with the blinds closed in the living room have still led to the room being uninhabitable on some days!
