River Thames at dusk

The Nine Elms regeneration project

The award for ‘most dramatic transformation’ goes to Nine Elms, a long slither of Thames riverfront between Lambeth Bridge and Chelsea Bridge. Here, glossy new-build apartment blocks are ten-a-penny, but it’s not just the residential scene that’s getting a facelift.  New offices, infrastructure, transport and entertainment hubs – among many other initiatives – are part of this £15 billion renovation scheme.

Brixton

Just south of the sparkling skyscrapers of SW8, urban cool can be found in edgy Brixton and Clapham. The lively pubs, bars and music venues (don’t miss Hootananny) in these parts promise a night out to remember; and there’s plenty in the way of kitsch brunch spots to help with that sore head the next day. Area newcomers should head to Brixton Village and Brixton Market, where the community spirit is infectious, and the round-ups include taste-tingling street food and local performers. Next door Stockwell is quieter but not without its charms. Dubbed ‘Little Portugal’, it’s home to a large Portuguese population, and its cafés and eateries serve up all kinds of national delicacies.

Old Mansion in South London

Affluent South West London

Northern postcodes like SW1, SW3 and SW7 appeal to those who like to live la dolce vita. Ticking off upmarket neighbourhoods such as Westminster, Belgravia, Chelsea and South Kensington, it’s where house prices are in the millions and the residential scenery is quintessential London. Think timeless Victorian townhouses, black wrought-iron gates and immaculate garden squares.

Nappy Valley

Further south, you’ll find greener boroughs like Wandsworth and Wimbledon; both of which regularly top polls of London’s best places to live. Wandsworth is well-known as ‘Nappy Valley’, such is the draw for families here. Wandsworth Common and King George’s park are prime picnic and playing territory, and the local schools have a decent reputation. That said, the area’s younger population is also rising steadily; a result of the brand-new luxury waterfront apartments, an easy commute to Victoria and Waterloo, and a fabulous wining and dining scene. This savvy lot also knows it’s a lot cheaper to live in Wandsworth than it is to live in Fulham; just across the river.

Putney

East of Wandsworth lies pretty Putney, a delightful mix of riverside restaurants and cafés, swathes of green and period properties. The area’s many sporting clubs (tennis, golf, rowing – it’s all present and correct) will suit outdoorsy types, while nearby Roehampton University pulls in the students. As such, the waterfront bars come alive after dark.

Fantastic views with excellent amenities/facilites! Abdo was great to work with during the rental process. He was always helpful, friendly and patient while guiding us through the rental process. Highly recommend renting at Bloom and be sure to ask for Abdo – he’s the best!

Wish there was an option to pay extra for parking. Shame there is no tube station. Otherwise great location, good shops and pubs and great train line.

Please review your development:

Love the design very modern and the rustic ceilings. Building is always clean, bin room is always tidy. Staff seem good only 1 bad encounter with a staff member in my month of being here but it seems I just caught her on a bad day. Otherwise all great, helpful and friendly. Wish there was an option for the tenant to install sky tv in their room from a communal satalite. Don’t love that there is no free view on the tv.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Great if a current tenant could show you around. I know easier said than done.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Very well. Freezer problem came up in the checkin document and someone came to look at it straight away.

Location is very convenient. We are just three stops from Waterloo station, we have 3 local supermarkets, nice independent coffee shops and restaurants. I also appreciate having hairdressers around, Wimbledon park when its summer.

Please review your development:

I think the design was made with good intentions overall, but there are certain things like the bed that cannot be easily lifted to maximise space storage, witch I think is a must in such a small studios, also the chairs in the coworking look nice but they are not comfortable. Also, the maintenance of the building is not great. The tap on the living room isn’t working, many ovens have been out of order for a while, the kitchen looks run down. In general the comunal areas have decline over time.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I would say the bad for me is the strong bad smells from the shower, food smells from other rooms and noises from the fridge and train. The best are the gym, co-working and location.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

In terms of communication by email I have really struggle in the past to get replies. But There are some specific people at reception that are really nice and helpful like Amarez and Ryan.

The local area is great. Almost everything you need is available. From the GP services to the shops, everything is just so easy to access and high quality. The cafes and restaurants are also amazing.

Please review your development:

The design is great. The facilities, from the laundry room to the co-working spaces are all well designed. The rooms are a bit on the small side, but they’re compact and practical. The lifts are difficult as they keep breaking. The management is helpful and understanding for the most part.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wish I knew how small the rooms would be. You can’t really get a feel of it until you move in.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

They mostly listen and try to fix it as soon as they can. One thing I admire is that when there is an ongoing issue, they try their best to keep everyone as informed as possible.
