Genuinely the best place to live, and I've rented for 20 years!

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
You're rather spoilt living centrally here, the location is incredibly convenient for a number of reasons. Having lived in Brighton since 2011, The Lanes have always been one of my favourite parts of the city, and now living just a 5 minute walk from the North Laine is brilliant. You'll find some of the quirkiest independent shops around, as well as a whole host of practical ones. From shops selling musical instruments to socks, independent coffee shops and bakeries to comic books. There are countless little local cafes and eateries offering a wide range of foods from all over the world, whatever you're looking for, you'll find it here. Snoopers Paradise is an Aladdin's Cave of vintage and antique trinkets and I'd challenge anyone not to leave with at least something! Infinity Foods is a local organic supermarket with everything you could ever need, including the best organic sourdough bread, always sourcing delicious and exciting new produce from around the world while supporting local and seasonal suppliers. Brighton Station is a stone's throw from the building and you can be in London in an hour. London Road is a 2 minute walk with great transport links, a post office, chemists and supermarkets. Preston Park is an 8 minute walk and is a lovely area of greenery, very popular with runners, walkers and dog owners. Parking has never been an issue for us, whether using the nearby London Road Car Park or finding a space on the street outside. Traffic noise in the summer can be a bit overwhelming if you have your windows open, but the soundproofing is excellent and ensures we sleep very well at night!
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
I haven’t really had too many problems living here as the building is thankfully very well built! However, when I do email, my queries are always responded to on the same day, usually within a few hours. Maintenance issues are dealt with promptly with good communication. We have 2 cats so I like to be here whenever checks are carried out on the doors or fire alarms and the team are always accommodating around my availability. I always feel listened to, heard and respected, and any concerns I have had have been handled with care and professionalism.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
My one and only quibble living here is probably the bar on Elder Place, which can be very loud in the summer months. Depending on what side of the building you live however, this wont be an issue for all apartments and is subject to your tolerance level for noise!

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
Perfect location. 5-6 minute walk to the train station, 3-4 minute walk to the nearest bus station, 5-6 minute walk to a large Sainsbury’s. Several pubs, shops and restaurants around. Although it is really close to London Road, it is one street away so you don’t get that people crowd and anti-social behaviour around the building.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
They are really quick to respond to any problems or issues raised, especially it is great in terms of maintenance. We haven’t had many issues but once we had it, it was very quickly resolved. Murdell from maintenance team was great and handled our issue the next day after it was raised successfully.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I didn’t think having a reception and a building management would be this useful and helpful but it really is once you need something.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
Living in this area has been genuinely lovely. Everything I need is within easy walking distance — Brighton Station, shops, cafés, and great places to grab food. It’s lively without feeling overwhelming, and I feel very safe walking around, even in the evenings!
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
Every time I’ve raised a question or needed help, the team have responded quickly and kindly. They’re professional but also warm, which makes a big difference. Even small things are handled promptly, and it gives me a lot of confidence and peace of mind. Thank you to the Management Team!
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I wish I’d known earlier just how reassuring the safety and support here would feel. The 24/7 concierge and strong security make such a difference — especially for someone living alone. Also, parcels are kept safely, and moving in was much smoother than I expected.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
All is great except for off street parking as there is a waiting list to just get a permit to park in zone Y.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
Yes, always very promptly. They are there to make the community thrive!
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
On the sixth floor never had an issue with noise, either internal or external. Also, safety is top.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
I love living in Brighton and the York and Elder building is in the perfect location as it's very close to Brighton station. It's not an issue for me right now but there's no free parking which is frustrating as I'd like to start driving lessons in a few months. I like how close we are to London road for food and Aldi.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
They respond very quickly, we've only had a few issues and they were dealt with fairly quickly.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I can't think of anything. Although, something I often tell myself is to attend more social events if I can. There are some lovely residents in the building.
Manager response
