We love living at Wood Street House

Wood Street House is a brand new development decorated at the highest standard in a contemporary style. The community area, work space and terrace is massive with plenty of different seating areas to relax or work at one of the numerous work stations. The outdoor terrace overlooks Principality Stadium and if it’s a sunny day you are sure to catch a beautiful sunset. Also on the property is a gym with plenty of space and everything from weights, bikes, treadmills and rowers. The staff is warm and friendly, very helpful and accommodating. The building itself is secured and has 24 hour coverage in the lobby. We are new to Cardiff and we are so happy we chose Wood Street House!

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Wood Street House is in such a great location, minutes from Cardiff Central rail station, restaurant, bars, pubs and shopping absolutely everything you could need or want is at your doorstep. That’s the good aspects, if course living in a city and with so much so close by also comes noise. The building is virtually sound proof, but is you open a window you will be treated by a cacophony of sounds.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

We were very grateful that although the process was long the staff was willing to hold the specific apartment we wanted. Such a bonus.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

We’ve only had one issue in the short time we’ve lived here and that was taking care of in a very timely manner and ufd add the maintenance staff is delightful.

Living in this area is incredibly convenient and vibrant. Parking facilities are available, which is a big plus. The central location near the central railway station and bus stations makes commuting a breeze. There are plenty of stores and shops nearby, including a bustling central market just a few steps away. Overall, it’s a lively and well-connected place to live.

One useful tip for new neighbors is to explore the nearby parks and green spaces; they offer a peaceful retreat from city life.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Onboarding process was smooth, it was far better than other agencies.
From the initial viewing to the final contract signing, everything was exceptionally smooth.

The design of all aspects of the building is great

Verified Resident
Verified Resident
Review Date Sep 2023

The design of all aspects of the building is great. The structure of the room, lovely built in kitchen and storage across the whole apartment is good. The views are amazing over the hills. The free WiFi, gym, roof terrace and 24/7 reception provides a lovely amount of amenities. Few issues like lights witched wired the wrong way, so on is off and off is on. Stain on carpet and a led strip not working, but hope these will be fixed ASAP.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Cardiff Central train station is a 2 minute walk away. All the main bars and restaurants are within a 5 minute walk away. Can be a little bit loud and buys outside the street however the locked doors at the front of the building help with that.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The units have air cooling! Lots of plug sockets in flat.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Unsure just yet, reporting maintenance is very easy through the online portal. Only reported a few things in the last day or so on the weekend, so will see how long it takes to fix.

Great development

Review Date Sep 2023

The development is great, some days we don’t leave the building aha. The gym has everything we would need and we are looking forward to classes starting. We appreciate the communal space at the top and the events are really fun. There are some small design aspects which I think could be improved like better storage in the bedrooms and a backsplash above the sink. The property management have been very helpful whenever we have had issues but sometimes the systems cause problems.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Perfect location for shops and restaurants, short walk from green spaces like bute park. Right next to the train station. Parking is tricky for guests but great for us. Feels very safe.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That we would have a key and a card. I would have preferred a fob as a card is an extra thing to carry/ lose but I understand the reasons why.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Whenever we have had problems everyone has been very helpful.

My suggestions for a better life at Wood Street House

Verified Resident
Verified Resident
Review Date Sep 2023

The design was great and I liked it.
And all the staff members are nice and kind. I’m happy that even when I had a problem, they kindly answered any questions I had. There is a staff member at the reception all day long who manages the property. I’m grateful that I can live here in peace.
Regarding the facilities, I would like to be able to change the water pressure of the shower in the bath. I think it’s a little weak now.
And I feel like the heating in the hallway is a little strong. Sometimes I feel hot. It’s nice in the winter, but at other times it may not be necessary to turn on the heating for the sake of eco-friendliness.
And the top deck receives strong sunlight, so it gets hot in the afternoon, especially in summer. It might be a good idea to add blind curtains.
The gym is very good with plenty of machines. I like it and use it often. It would be nice if the gym had a scale and a water station.
There are 4 elevators, which is enough. However, it’s inconvenient when it breaks down once in a while, so I’d appreciate it if you could get it repaired as soon as possible.
Regarding property management, As I mentioned earlier, I feel safe because the staff is taking good care of me. If I had to say so, it is inconvenient that there is only one key for the mailbox. If you live with two people, it would be nice to have two.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

The good aspect about the local area is that it is quiet. There were no noise problems and I was able to live quietly.
The bad aspect was that it was far from the city and there weren’t many restaurants nearby. I also needed a car to go shopping. The supermarket had a sufficient selection of products, but the number of stores was small.
This area is very convenient for living as it is close to the station and there are many restaurants and supermarkets. Although there is some noise, the building is well soundproofed. Also garbage is well managed and I can live cleanly.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

It can be a bit noisy at night due to noise from nearby pubs and construction. The preview visit was during the day, so I didn’t know what it would be like outside at night.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

When I first moved here, I was confused about where the gym was. At that time, before I could tell them that I was lost, a staff member noticed that I was in trouble and called out to me. I think it’s because they pay close attention to the residents. I thought it was well managed and I was grateful for it.

Good facilities – poor management (especially during contracting)

Verified Resident
Verified Resident
Review Date Sep 2023

The development is nice, as functional as it needs to be. Staff is also nice but the process of getting the contracting done was not a great experience. Years of renting in London, I have not experience such a poor management procedures. The referencing process (letting agent) is horrible. I don’t really understand how one cannot pass the checks with more than 40 times the rent.. We were very disappointed and stressed for weeks. This needs to certainly be improved.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Central location next to the train station and main entertainment area of the city. If you are looking to easy access to night life, this place is great. However, it tends to be quite noisy. During the day due to construction on the ground floor and during the night, from the nearby pubs/clubs. You will often notice antisocial behaviour, especially during the weekends.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That contracting will take 1.5 months and that we’d have to pay a year’s rent upfront

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

By indicating they are working on it.. for months now..

One of the coziest places to live in Cardiff

Review Date Sep 2023

The design is one of its kind and the development has all the necessary facilities and more that are very carefully cared. The rooms are nicely structured and there is room form extra storage!
There is 24/7 concierge service in the front door that covers all your needs.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

The center of cardiff is filled with lots of restaurants and it has a vast variety of shops and pubs

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

You can have a very accurate description from the website so nothing in particular

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Up to now they have fully covered any problem i had

Although not perfect I’m quite happy to stay here

The design and facilities are brilliant. The only thing is it can take very long to get things sorted with the management team. Also the ventilation in the corridors aren’t the best, could be very hot and the ground floor smells of rubbish. The communal area looks good for now.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

The location of the building is very good, extremely close to the train station and the city centre of Cardiff. However the down side is it’s very difficult to park around the area and could be quite noisy at night.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Ventilation is quite poor, could be quite noisy at night.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

It can take very long to get in contact with the team, sometimes their landline just doesn’t work

Well worth it!

Review Date Sep 2023

The design of the building and all the individual apartments is fantastic! There were some minor oversights in the construction that are surprising for a building of this quality, but they’re not really anything that I gave more than a shrug. The management has been fantastic since I’ve moved in. I did have some difficulties when I was going through the application process that very nearly had me go somewhere else, but once that eventually got sorted things have been smooth since.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Incredibly convenient location! Everything I need is within just a few minutes’ walk. Especially helpful to be so close to the train. It does get a bit loud and congested any time there’s an event on at principality stadium, but otherwise fantastic.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Just know the parking can be difficult to get into on a busy night in town.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

They’ve been very prompt reviewing my concerns and making sure things were addressed.
