Lovely building with great communal area

This is a great building to live in. We are a couple living in a one-bedroom flat and while it is small there is two great common areas. A common room with sofas and tables and a pool table and a rooftop terrace. The building is very secure. One downside is our flat is at the front of the building so it can be a little loud, particularly on the weekends

Great location in Croydon but can be a little loud

I’ve been really impressed by our development. Moving in was so easy and stress-free which was really good for a first time buyer. Having the apartment furnished with the kitchen, washing machine, bathroom etc. all brand new meant we didn’t have to worry about saving for those things. The concierge are so friendly and know us on first name basis.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Noisy could have done with sound proofing

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Check the planning applications properly for surrounding units e.g. new shops or gyms opening

High-spec and affordable ‘micro-flats’ in the centre of Croydon

Review Date Dec 2018

Green Dragon House is a new-build ‘micro-flats’ development from Inspired Homes. Like many, the developer has embraced the perks of building affordable, pint-sized housing in up-and-coming locations. All in a bid to attract those who’d usually struggle to afford London living.

This development’s in the middle of Croydon, which is currently undergoing a multi-billion-pound makeover. There’s a brand-new Westfield planned, street food extravaganza Boxpark is up and running (hot on the heels of its popular Shoreditch original), and more quirky cocktail bars and eateries are cropping up daily.

While on the smaller side (around 357 square-feet for a one-bedroom, and 561 square-feet for a two), the apartments at Green Dragon House are chic and modern, with sparkling white walls and ceilings, engineered hardwood flooring and spotlighting. There’s no hallway, just an open-plan living and dining area, and the bathroom and bedroom (or bedrooms) lead off from here. Bathrooms are especially swish, and done out entirely in shiny black tiles. And it’s easy to cook up a storm in the kitchen, which features gloss-white furniture and Bosch mod-cons.

Extra attention should go into the shared spaces at micro-flats developments, and Green Dragon House hits the mark. It’s got some standout areas, comprising a rooftop terrace with a barbecue, stylish seating and top London views, plus a smart residents’ lounge with a pool table and superfast broadband. World-famous street artists Ben Eine and Dotmasters lent a hand during the design phase, so you’ll spot their work in communal areas.

Croydon’s London transport links are brilliant, and Green Dragon House is walkable from two stations – East Croydon and West Croydon. The former has Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express trains with direct links to the likes of Clapham Junction and King’s Cross St. Pancras, while the latter whisks commuters to Canada Water, Shoreditch and Whitechapel vis the Overground.
