A high density development on several acres of land north of Shepherds Bush Westfield. Not to be confused with the redevelopment of the old BBC on the west side of Wood Lane. Completion of all the buildings won’t be for a few years, with Phase 1 scheduled for late 2019, but the flats are selling fast. You can see why – lots of swish add-ons, transport links are very good and so, obviously, is shopping, eating and entertainment, not to mention the conveniently close proximity of Imperial College’s new White City Campus. Typical buyers in this development won’t be comparing it with the traditional Londoner’s view of Shepherds Bush and White City as frankly being a bit rough but a trickle down effect is, hopefully, inevitable. In the meantime, the flats are packed in but to St James’s credit there’ll be 8 acres of outside space that’s open to the public as well. It will be ”just like New York’ says the nice sales lady and with 1,400 apartments in blocks of varying heights up to around 21 floors in Phase 1 and 27 in Phase 4 she might be right. Only quibble at this early stage is that ceiling heights feel a little on the low side.

This development has everything a resident will need right on the doorstep with Westfield. Residents won’t need – and indeed may not want – to venture into the nearby streets or the shops of Shepherds Bush itself. It’s traditionally a rather poor area that’s taking its time to come up. Extensive social housing and a football stadium may explain the foot riding on the brake but there are small pockets fighting a rear guard action. Uxbridge Road has plenty of individual restaurants and shops that cater to a local population that hails from all over the world and there is a fantastic local theatre (the Bush).
