Nice estate but beware of very poor build quality

Terrible build quality and equally terrible property management. I’ve been waiting over 3 years for Crest/NHBC to repair my property which leaks in large amounts of rain water. There is lots of mould as a result. This is all due to Crest not following building regulations and NHBC not bothering to inspect the property properly.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Average, there a local Waitrose and costa that’s it. Good location to get into central MK. Some anti social behaviour with petty theft and graffiti. Also lots of litter all over the estate.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Yes but not to an acceptable standard. The build management company care as little as Crest and NHBC about their customers.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wish I’d known how low the build quality was by Crest. I wouldn’t of purchased the property had I known.

A Spirited Community

Oakgrove has a very modern design that resembles some American Architecture. I quite love the fact that there are spaces that have been left for trees and wild plants have been left to flourish and each plot, whether house or apartment building had a large space for plants and flowers. This includes the large Ouzel park that connects to Woolstone, leads to Willen lake and even Middleton. There are multiple okay parks for the children so that they don’t tire of the one location. The BMX park, however, needs a good clean up and regular maintenance as it has been neglected and now overgrown.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Oakgrove is a lovely place to live. The local Waitrose and other shops are quite friendly to visit although there isn’t a restaurant where you can buy food if you didn’t want to cook. Despite that, we are in close vicinity of Monkston Park that does have these. There are quite a few parking bays on each road to accommodate visitors and red ways for pedestrians to walk to avoid vehicles. There isn’t really much antisocial behaviour although some people tend to nit pick at children being children on the community page. Despite this, it’s a nice place to live where the community pulls together. The bin collection days have improved majorly wherein the waste collection team have been arriving quite early and leaving less of a mess.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

My experience with Clarion Housing has been positive as they have been very good with responding to any concerns raised for repairs.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wish I’d known that the kitchen would’ve been really small for a three bedroom house. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and was quite disappointed for the size in my home. Although the Garden and the other rooms are decent in size, it would’ve been nice if the kitchen was too. I was pleased that I had a shed and a rotary washing line as well as a water tank for the garden. I was disappointed that there wasn’t a garden tap though.

Failed to meet Fire Regulations

Yet another corrupt and incompetent house builder. My apartment was build so poorly that water ingresses in from every window and water streams in from the balcony when it rains. I have to place buckets down to catch all the water. The block isn't even 4 years old! I had an independent inspector round, what they found was shocking. The block hasn't even been build to fire and damp proofing regulations. Crest ignore all my attempts at contacting them, I know many others on my estate having similar issues. Cowboy outfit, avoid their homes. They may look nice at first, but they aren't built to standard regulations.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Great area, but Crest have done an abysmal job on building

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Wish i'd known how dodgy Crest are and how unsafe my building is as they didn't even bother to meet basic fire regulations

Please share one thing (or more) which you would change about your development:

Everything, biggest mistake of my life was buying from Crest

The development is good, but Crest customer service is really bad and we are very unsatisfied. The house was more than an year delayed and the whole process was badly managed by Crest. Customer manager was a bully and rude. I had to take actions w NHBC

Happy living in Oakgrove

Dec 2020

I'm happy with the design of the site around the area where I live. We appreciate the proximity to the Ouzel Valley park with lots of green areas to walk and the fresh air. There have been some issues with our property which we had to address with Crest Nicholson management. Otherwise we're quite happy with the property, the site and the location. Sometimes the issues arise due to area having become densely populated which resulted in litter issue including dog owners not raking sufficient responsibility over cleaning after their pets.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

The Oakgrove area development has been completed with a few playgrounds a primary school. There is Waitrose, Costa and a few other outlets available in our area. There are a few bus lines which run through or near the estate making it convenient to the around for those who do not drive.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That maintenance fees are very high if you live in a flat and that we will have lots of issues with the parking gate. Having a gate has been a real advantage, just wishing it would have worked better.

Please share one thing (or more) which you would change about your development:

Our flat is quite warm as it faces south, however it can get really chilly inside with colder weather and wind. The bedrooms with a single small radiator take quite a while to heat up and even then the heat dissipates quickly. Wondering if better more efficient radiators can be used instead of these ones. Same with a boiler - the capacity could have been better. One boiler heating only allows for a single person to wash and is not enough to fill in the bath tub so we have to heat water in multiple pans to fill in the tub.
