Barking Central is a joint venture development between Redrow Homes and Galliard Homes. It comprises of 272 one and two-bedroom apartments and three-bed homes. In addition, the development is conveniently located in the centre of Barking. Barking station is also in close proximity. Residents have access to a variety of Underground, Overground and National Rail Services. Futhermore, in 2011, Barking Central received an RIBA Award for architectural excellence.

There is a conceirge in the building who is very good and knowledge about the development. There are no additional facilities in the development. Overall building management has improved once Block Management took over. Can get noisy at times, but this will depending on where in the building you are living.

Very close to barking station and there are many shops in Barking town centre.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

There is no parking at all. If you have a car it will be difficuly to find parking nearby.

If there is one thing you would change about your flat or property what would it be:

Would be better to have individual boilers rather than all using a communial boiler via heat exchange unit.

There are no facilities in the development itself. No gym, but there is a local one nearby. The service charge is excessive for the service offered. Currently around 4 thousand per year for a 2 bed flat. Can be noisy as at times late in the evening.

Very close to Barking station and plenty of shops around the town centre .

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

There are issues with the hot water and at times the whole block does not have hot water. This is due to having a main boiler that previous hot water to all properties. Have seen an improvement in the past two years.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

The new building management have been better than the previous one.

I am the joint owner of a flat in Ropeworks apartment.
Flats in the building are well designed and well maintained. The building also has children nursery in the building premises. There is no parking in this area which is a drawback for people with vehicle.
Block Management team is proactive in taking care of the fire alarm, cctv , lift maintenance and garbage management.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

This is a nice place to stay as access to supermarket , tube station, GP is easy. The tube station has easy connectivity to central London because of the C2C and district & hammersmith line trains.
sometimes this place seems bit too crowded because of the high street market every alternate day in a week. There is also easy access to park and bus stop for Ilford and Romford. There are also nursery and pre-school near by.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wish I would know about the rating of schools in near by areas. The rating of schools in this area is quite average.

If there is one thing you would change about your flat or property what would it be:

I would want to have a dedicated parking for my flat along with different balcony view.

Design slightly varies depending the location of your flat. For example my flat may have different location of balcony than others have. But overall its well designed keeping the comfort into consideration.
Block Management does the care taking of the building and does a good job in my view.
CCTV cameras and Fire Alarm are very well working within the apartment.
Garbage management and security is also good.

The area is well connected with all essential things like supermarket, banks atms, bus stops, underground station, GP.
This area has all Tesco, Asda, Iceland, PoundLand, Lidil, and most valuable to me ie. high street market.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

There is always something that you learn from any purchase. This apartment doesn’t have parking so if you want to sell this property then it becomes a bit difficult.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Building management is good in responding to the queries raised by the tenants and the owners.
For example there was a lift failure issue which was raised by me and was dealt with utmost priority.
Water supply also faced some issue one year back and was also managed well.

I stay in a 2 bhk flat of Ropeworks appartment.
It has a good management by block management group.
The apartment is secure and block management is quite reachable when needed.
Major broadband services like Sky and Hyperoptic is available.
Overall a good apartment for a family.

Likes : Ares is well connected to central london and canary wharf. So it becomes a good option for any professional. Moreover this area has all major groceries supermarket like Asda, Tesco, Lidil, Iceland, PoundLand, B&M, The perfume shop. This area also has many bank branches like HSBC, BARCLAYS, NATWEST, HALIFAX, LOYDS BANK, NATIONWIDE. This area also has a TheGym which also an added advantage.

Dislikes: This area has some major security issues in the evening time. Stabbing and loot has been quite frequent in recent past. Schools in this area also dont have that good rating I think.

There has been water issue in the past but not very frequent.

What is the best feature of your home:

A home with a wide garden in front of my house with a big parking.

good area

the place is over crowded. they keep buildimg upwards and there is not enough car parking spaces for the amount of people. The CCTV does not work as well and there are no community spaces in this development.

they just built a corner shop which is good. the place is accessable to big super markets. the nearest station is 15 mins.

Great apartment and area but the pigeons are a real problem

The design of the apartment is lovely, the quality is good but the neighbours can be quite loud and disrespectful. The safety of the building is good but it’s not a very safe area. The concierges are friendly and helpful. The apartment block is very well situated in Barking – we chose it because it was in the centre. The apartments are very well equipped but they are a bit small. The worst thing is the pigeons – the front of the apartment block (and our apartment and balcony!) is full of pigeons and excrement. They are all over the balcony and there is excrement everywhere – we have even had pigeons inside!

Like how close everything is (the shops and the station) but don’t like the people sometimes – it is often loud in the evenings with lots of people shouting.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The pigeons – the building is really nice and we would recommend it but the issue of the pigeons and excrement is a real downside.

My own building is lovely because it is right next to the river and I really enjoy that, the views are really good too. The design of the apartment is fairly modern but efficient, with enough space for pretty much every thing you need. The concierge are not that good, I see quite a lot of strangers coming in and out of the building. In general, my area is quite but Barking itself is really bad as there are so many drug dealers and weird people.

This area is not safe at all. I only like it because itshe reallyou close to my house.

I see it as a dirty area, and this is something I didn’t know before coming here.

In general the area and apartment block are great. Both the area outside the apartment block and inside the building are clean and well maintained. The quality of the apartment is also good. There is great broadband connectivity for both lined based broadband and fibre optic. The neighbours are respectful although there is not much interaction between everyone. The security for the building is good – there is a concierge (who are all very friendly and helpful) and lots of cameras. There is a place to store bikes. On the downside, there have been issues with the water supply and these issues took a while to resolve. The building management are easily contactable but take a while to resolve issues. The garbage is also often not collected on time.

The area is great for convenience – there are lots of good shops near the apartment block and the station is very close. However the area is a bit overcrowded.

The lift issue – this is very frustrating as there are often long queues. There are only two lifts and they are slow.

The design of the house, interior and exterior is really good, the windows are really bigood, the ceilings are high and the layout of the rooms is well thought. The landlord is quite good too but sometimes takes too long to reply when there is a problem.

The shops are really close. There are too many bad people.
