Good place to live for professionals, families, retirees – the neighbourhood is generally friendly.
It is quiet with no much trouble although bike thieves are on the hunt at the moment but there are secured bike areas throughout.

The bin area is a bit of an issue as there doesnt seem to be enough bins per block and are often over flowing but that is part council, part resident responsibility.
And as previously stated there is plenty of parking but it being free can be an issue for those who cant use the private parking.

The buildings are cleaned every week and taken care which doesn’t go unnoticed and i hope would be appreciated throughout.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

It’s quiet despite being in the city centre, there are shops near by and its a 20 minute walk into town. There arent too many transport links directly outside the development but a short walk and there are.

There isnt much green areas in the development but there is pilrig park a short walk away.
Parking is an on going issue, depending on what block you are in you can get a car park pass to a private car park but it is mostly free parking which encourages non residents to park in the spaces.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

There is a facebook page for the residents, I dont have faecbook but im told that it is where people go to moan and gossip so i would suggest to anyone thinking of moving in to have a look at that to get the vibes of what goes on.

What is the best feature of your home:

The best feature is how quiet it is here. Despite being city centre it is peaceful.

Bonnington development review (Male, 27)

Verified Resident
Verified Resident
Review Date Jan 2021

The Bonnington development is tucked away nicely and is a peaceful environment.

Most residents are either young couples or young families.

The apartments are built with a classic redbrick that won’t feel outdated in future, unlike many new builds that go for a contemporary look and then look stale a decade later.

There is ample parking now the development has finished and secure bike stores for cyclists.

The appartment I own (2 bed on 2nd floor) is spacious enough for me and my one flatmate. It keeps it’s heat incredibly well and even during Edinburgh’s coldest days I only have to put the heating on for a couple of hours in the morning abd evening.

The property managers are quick to respond to any issue.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

This is a fantastic area to live in. Leith seems to be one of the most up and coming areas in Edinburgh. The development is only a mile and a quarter from the city centre.

The development backs directly onto the water of Leith and is only about a mile from the gorgeous Leith docks. Nearby there are many great pubs and cafes, the only shame is that since moving here it’s not been possible to visit them all due to the pandemic.

There are many supermarkets nearby, including a sizeable Lidl and huge Tesco both only a little more than half a mile away towards the bottom of Leith walk.

Leith also has a number of great local parks for dog walkers and young families to take their children to. Victoria park in particular is huge and boasts an impressive set of play equipment for children, alongside publically accessible tennis and basketball courts.

The neighbourhood is nice and quiet and it’s rare to hear of any trouble.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That there’s likely to be more major developments right opposite being built in the coming months and years – hoping these don’t block sunlight.

If there is one thing you would change about your flat or property what would it be:

Instead of a Juliette balconey having a proper balconey to sit outside on

Good location, a few minutes from buzzing Edinburgh areas.

The development is nice with the completed re-surfacing, although some more landscaping wouldn’t go amiss. The direct access to the water of Leith is a big plus, with several parks and walkways. Building management has been pretty low-key but small issues have been addressed when needed.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Bonnington is just a few minutes’ walk to several buzzing areas (the Shore, Leith Walk, Cannonmils, Broughton). A lot of the area is currently being re-developed, with several pockets of industrial property still around, but as this evolves over time I think more facilities will crop up ever nearer, bringing more to the neighbourhood.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

While out immediate blocks don’t have many facilities at the moment, we’re near many busy areas with lots of them. There is access to many parks and walkways nearby. Lots of residential development in the area are promising!

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

I haven’t had to raise any issues myself. Some that come up in share building areas seem to have been addressed in time.

Still a working process on the development. Starting to look good, good access and direct path to the Water of Leith. Builders been ok but a lot of snagging when I moved in. Customer services were OK but took a long time to sort. Factoring company are always in contact through letter.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Great place to live and close to city centre. Lots of shops, restaurants etc nearby and close to plenty of buses.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

How much snagging to expect

If there is one thing you would change about your flat or property what would it be:

Options of balconies would have been a good option.

Good location for small family

Overall is a very good development. There are still works to be finished, however, the place is cozy, quiet, good for family and pets. Bit overpriced but ok, guess those are prices over in Edinburgh. Building management has always given us an excellent treat responding to our queries in good time.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Area is good very central and close to Leith Walk which is an added value. There are many bus options and you have different shop options nearby.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Overall a good service

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

So far very well. We have a series of minor issues with some appliances and management has responded in a timely manner to our queries.

The development is lovely, ceilings could be a bit higher. I love the look of the place with the brickwork, it has a nice polished look. The area is perfect, quiet enough to feel relaxed and homey yet just round the corner is a local pub and the water of Leith is about 5 mins away. The shore is a 10 min walk. Are is great.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Great area, close transport links with the 27 close by. Water of Leith also within 5 mins walking distance and local shops about 10 mins away. A few pubs just round the corner.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Nothing. Things are so close to hand.

What is the best feature of your home:

Our open plan living and the location. Lovely finish to the building. The windows let in a lit of light yet the development feels cosy.

Great development!

Review Date Jan 2021

I think the design is really modern. There is plenty of parking too which is great. The layout is well thought through but more space would always have been welcomed! The grass area is a nice touch especially in the summer months. The building is always kept clean.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

I love how quiet the area is! There are nice parks not to far away and you are in walking distance to town. Leith walk is close by for bars and restaurants. Brilliant area!

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The amount of storage space, only 1 cupboard which gets filled easily!

What is the best feature of your home:

Large kitchen and living area. Nice big windows to let sunlight through.

Walkable to many places

Verified Resident
Verified Resident
Review Date Jan 2021

Slightly off from the road with very little noise, and large windows letting in a lot of light. Higher up there are views of Arthur’s Seat and Calton Hill. Parking spaces are fairly busy so is sometimes hard to find a slot, and a bit more greenery / green space would have been nicer.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Walkable to The Shore, Newhaven, East End and George Street. Couple of parks nearby, Pilrig and Victoria (very nice). Downside is it’s at least 0.5 miles to any reasonable sized shop but that’s not the end of the world.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Pretty much anywhere requires a short (0.5m+) walk, needing at least 10 mins each way.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Original factors were not great but once their contract ended (appointed by Miller) they were replaced with a much better company (Trinity Factors) who are very responsive and also proactive.
