Very happy overall

Design – innovative! We love the look of the house inside and out, storage is very clever here too.

Facilities – green spaces on our estate are well-maintained.

Building and property management – as we’re an estate of free-hold tenants we don’t have much experience of this apart from the snagging process.

Facilities, building management and property management.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

We’re less than a 5 minute walk from the high street, which is very convenient. There are plenty of bars, pubs, and smaller independent restaurants and cafes. Plus a Wetherspoons, which is always busy. There’s an enormous retail park about 10 minutes away by car, but good shop choice within walking distance too.

There is a good size park across the road with a playground, tennis courts, boules club, and net/basketball courts.

Transport links are good, it’s a 10 minute walk to the train station (but there’s always works going on at weekends so often, there are no trains through Westhoughton or Daisy Hill) and there are lots of buses that stop on Bolton road.

Our street is quiet, there are lots of families and dogs. There’s a school next door so around 3pm is very busy footfall-wise on the main road, but we don’t get any antisocial behaviour. Those at the mouth of the estate have had trouble with parents parking in front of their houses and using/blocking their drives during school drop off/pick up and Saturday football.

Parking is fine, again the mouth of the estate has proper pavements (whereas ours are almost single-file width) so we park around the side of our house or on our driveway.

Bin collections are consistent.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Replace the lawn as soon as you can – particularly on corner plots that are North (or part-North) facing. New build garden ground is full of clay, brick and construction rubbish. The grass is extremely sparse and has not grown properly in 2 years.

What is the best feature of your home:

High ceilings and large windows let light through even the smallest houses on the plot. This makes a huge difference to other developers who have tiny windows. Our living room is also on the back of the house, overlooking the garden, which means we aren’t looked in on from the street.

Great home!

We absolutely love our house, the layout, kitchen and bathrooms are fantastic. The best room of the house.. The Lootility! Just brilliant. The facilities we had to score only a 4, due to the issue with our back door, unable the lock from the inside but we can from the outside. Getting in touch with the door company has been a slight pain and we want to transparent as possible. Other than the slight issue with the door, we just love everything about the house and Northstone!

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

The area of the development is great. There is a pub less than 100 yards. Which is great!
The transport is fine. A walk to the bus stops and train station. Close enough to shops that can be driven to or walk.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Having the correct floor measurement prior to moving in, so not having to wait for carpets or flooring!

What is the best feature of your home:

The Lootility is high up there, the space is just brilliant. Also the long windows are gorgeous!

Nice development in a great location

The houses are a Scandinavian design so very different from other new builds across the UK. Design and standard specification is very impressive with things such as silestone counter tops and rain showers coming as standard. Energy efficiency is also very high with reasonable energy bills even in this current climate. Overall, we are very happy with our home at Silkash. The only downside was the number of snags but these were all minor issues and the customer service team are usually quite quick to respond and book appointments to carry out any remedial work.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Silkash is a very quiet estate apart from the odd disturbance from the nearby nature reserve. The town centre is only a 10 minute walk away and is very developed, if you like your trendy coffee shops, tap rooms and barbers, etc. The train station is a 10-15 minute walk away and the M61 is around 5 mins away in the car, so transport links are very convenient.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The nearby nature reserve can sometimes be a problem, especially during the school holidays.

What is the best feature of your home:

The energy efficiency and standard specification; some of the features / materials used in Northstone homes would be upgrades with your standard tier 1 developer.

I love my Northstone Home

Nice location with good transport links. The residents are also lovely. Everyone who comes down the street starts asking questions about the buildings and development because they look attractive and different from the typical UK homes. The design within the homes is even better with relatively high ceilings and good management of the space.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

There’s a bus stop at the turn into the street with direct buses to the university, bus interchange and train station.
Home comes with its own driveway that fits at least 2 cars which is very convenient. Adequate space for bin storage and the council collects the bins regularly. No noted antisocial behaviour. While indoors I don’t hear any traffic sounds and barely any traffic sounds while standing outside my home.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I only wish I had known how expensive it will be to decorate a place I love.

What is the best feature of your home:

There’s so many but my favourite is the lootility which is a combined downstairs loo and utility room. I also love the high ceilings and large windows downstairs.
