Mid Glamorgan is in the southwest of Wales. The county covers an area of 1,361 square kilometres. It borders Swansea Bay to the west and north-west, Neath Port Talbot to the northeast, Bridgend to the east and Cardiff to the south-east. There are many towns within Mid Glamorgan too including Llantwit Major, Pontyclun and Pencoed.

Universities in Mid Glamorgan

There are no universities within the county of Mid Glamorgan itself but Swansea University is very close by to the northwest. If you want to study at an institution closer than that then Cardiff Metropolitan University may be a better choice – it’s located in the capital.

Top Schools in Mid Glamorgan

There are a few top schools in Mid Glamorgan, including Bryntirion School and Tonyrefail Comprehensive. However, if you’re looking for an independent school then Cowbridge Grammar School may be more to your taste.

Bryntirion School – Bryntirion School is a co-educational secondary school in Bridgend. The school has academy status and was founded in 1958. It takes pupils from the age of 11 to 18 years old and has around 1300 students currently enrolled.

Tonyrefail Comprehensive – Tonyrefail Comprehensive School is a large, mixed comprehensive school located in the village of Tonyrefail, near Rhondda Cynon Taf. The school has over 1600 pupils and is one of the largest in Wales. It takes students from the age of 11 to 18 years old.

Cowbridge Grammar School – Cowbridge Grammar School is a grammar school located in the town of Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan. The school has around 1300 students and takes pupils from the age of 11 to 18-years old.

The population of Mid Glamorgan is around 423,200 people, with the majority of the population living in the larger towns and cities such as Pontypridd and Merthyr Tydfil.
