Has changed the landscape of Barking

Verified Resident

Barking used to be a crime infested area but now the redevelopment scheme it has reduced this. The only problem is that there is very few parking space so it would have been preferable if there was more resident parking

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Houses are good not much to do in barking. The flats are nice inside.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wish I was told that there were few parking space as there is little resident parking and so i need to park else where. The Parking price is too expensive 50 pound a month for parking. U have to do private parking here and u are not given resident parking. I was Told that u don’t need parking permit.

The overall living experience is nice, the infrastructure is good. The only problem is that the lift is always broken especially the big one and is a problem since I need to go hospital ever so often so it is just annoying.

The intercom for the property doesn’t really function properly so it gets really annoying.

Good communal area

Verified Resident

I like the apartments inside as they are spacious and good storage. The communal space for the children is great. Unfortunately only allowed 1 permit for parking and you have to pay to use the car park.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

That there isn’t a speed limit in the complex and homeless people breaking into the bin area which isn’t appealing

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wish I knew about the permits

Nightmare

The build is not done correctly, the noise travelling from properties underneath Is very bad. The same from the properties either side. There is no such thing as having piece of mind within your own home. The master room you can hear the neighbours toilet being used and all kitchen appliances being used since the neighbours kitchen is on the same floor (2)as my rooms. Constantly hearing showers being used in both bedrooms and dripping off water.

The bathroom also has thin walls that backs onto part of the neighbours kitchen and garden there lists of noise and sleepless nights.

Van has been marked up and bin on a Monday are being left near cars

Neighbours are neighbours from hell constant loud music throughout the day and night. I have not had one good night slee since moved in and I have nothing but regrets moving to this site with the lack of uneducated and unclean neighbours that live within the site.

The build also has defects of which was logged early last year and still till this day nothing has been done to amend these issues. Example of one issue no heating and draft coming from windows and wet floor around the edges of the rooms.
Plus many other concerns

Barking and Dagenham and mainstay ignore your issues and concern and have shown nothing but neglect to issues.

The dust since moved in has been really bad on health and the noise from the development also has been unbearable. Works sometimes have started before 8am Monday to Sunday.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Landlord would have been honest and much more structure organised.

The homes were not ready and therefore they were rushed and finished with a poor standard. Even though the homes were not ready to be moved into they landlord still allowed this.

Many people that live within the complex have messed up some of the areas and looks messy.

An affordable, contemporary community in the transforming town of Barking

Weavers Quarter gets its name from the old Jute mills of Barking. And the fact it’s been given a title that celebrates the area’s history sets the tone for this lovingly-constructed development close to the town centre. It’s actually part of a wider, 15-year regeneration project set to transform the entire neighbourhood, which encompasses a new park and two new schools, plus a brand-new riverfront promenade edged by restaurants and cafés.

To create an inclusive and welcoming community, the blueprints included a collection of modern homes that span one to four bedrooms. There are 30 different layouts, too, so this place will suit singles, couples and families alike. Thanks to the Shared Ownership scheme available (with shares ranging from 30 to 75%), it’s especially popular with first-time buyers.

The homes are spread out among serene, landscaped grounds, so there’s plenty of space for outdoor play and relaxing. All have been done to a high specification inside, with soft, neutral shades and quality features such as Electrolux kitchen appliances, LED lighting, and a combination of timber, tile and wool-mix carpet flooring where appropriate. Windows are double-glazed and sizeable, which means plenty of peace and quiet as well as lashings of natural light throughout. Plus, each and every home at Weavers Quarter comes with a private balcony, terrace or garden.

The London links are impressive here, with not one, but two stations within walking distance from Weavers Quarter. Barking tube is on both the District and Hammersmith & City lines, with direct tubes running to Liverpool Street, Tower Hill and Victoria. Meanwhile, Barking Station offers Mainline trains to London Fenchurch Street – the journey takes less than 20 minutes. Road links are also excellent, with the A13 and North Circular close by, connecting you to the likes of Canary Wharf, London City Airport and the Southend seaside.

As mentioned, the Barking area is getting a colossal makeover, so its popularity is set to grow in the coming years. For now, residents can enjoy its riverside walks, countless parks and wildlife reserves, and good supply of shops, bars and restaurants. Two popular local gems include the historic ruins of Barking Abbey, and The Broadway theatre.

Shared Ownership at Weavers Quarter

Verified Resident

Weavers Quarter is based in Barking, right by the Town Centre. It is a New Build consisting of social housing and shared ownership. The development at the time of writing is still being built however a lot of people have moved in. The summer has been loud with kids which i don’t mind (it reminds me of my own youth) but the the windows are triple glazed so noise can blocked out. All the flat come with outdoor space, either a private balcony or terrace. It’s big enough for table chairs and a small cheeky bbq…..

The Landlord looks after the building well; if there are any issues with the flat it is usually resolved within a few days. The only issues i have are: 1. No concierge ( but i suppose this is why the cost of the development is a bit more affordable) and 2. The limited parking is allocated to renters and not those who part owners via shared ownership. I think this is a little unfair

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Likes: very close to Town Centre; very close to Barking station and transport hub; can shop from 3 supermarkets within 10mins from the development; currently going under regeneration so potential is being realised
Dislikes: loads of parking restrictions; where there is limited parking one has to pay; not a lot of choice to eat out – a lot of chicken shops and grills; shopping centre is a bit dated; would likely need to take a cab/uber home at night as there are only 1 or 2 late night buses; no night tube for district/hammersmith & city lines

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That the traffic wardens work as late as 9pm on the development!
