Do not live here if you have mobility issues

Review Date Feb 2021

I have lived in this development for over three years now, within two separate apartments. One apartment for 17 months and the second apartment for two years. We were the first tenants to have ever lived in both of the flats.

To begin with, we were over the moon with the service we received and loved the modern look of the apartments. However over time many faults appeared. Such as pavement slabs slipping (and the maintenance team blaming us for this) to the toilet breaking and leaking. Mould issues in the bathroom due to not being shown how to use the ventilation systems. And once shown, the issues carried on. Extremely high electric bills (£700 for 3 months) due to not being shown how the electric works correctly.

When we moved to our second flat which is in Bridge Court, we lived on the top floor. Here the lifts just have been out of service more times than i can count on my hands. We have had to take on multiple occasions all of our food shopping up 12 flights of stairs. On one occasion as we were walking down the stairs, we came across a lady in a wheelchair on floor 3 who was deciding whether to go out that day or a day later due to only having minimal mobility on her legs and it would take far too much effort for her to go down the stairs twice. So she could only leave her flat once. I also was in the lift once and it dropped a couple of foot, something flew out the ceiling and hit me on the head and the lights flash off and on, when i reported this, all they said was sorry.

We also enquired into a rolling contract for us for a few months at the end of our tenancy to which they said we would have had to pay an additional £100 a month which i thought was ridiculous considering the extremely expensive rent price we paid anyways. Also, we have been paying full price for the last year but have had access to no facilities. When we first signed our contract we were told there would be BBQs, a pizza oven outside, gym and a communal lounge. Due to covid, most things have been out of access. But the BBQs were just never returned to the outside area. Then lastly, we pay £75 a month to park our car which is very expensive. But we still received a parking fine whilst parking in our designated space.

So unfortunately there is not a lot of positive to say from us, but we did love the location, the views from our balcony and the service where we could have our deliveries kept with concierge. And the ladies who worked for Bow Square were also great. We just do not think the building was built well and that the main owners and management team are out of touch with the team on the ground running their business.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

The area is great, right in the centre of Southampton. Pubs, restaurants, bars, shops, cafes and supermarkets all within walking distance. There are buses just around the corner to take you all over the place. There is a ferry service to the Isle of Wight just down the road. The train station is easy to access via bus or walking.

Sometimes can be loud due to the location.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That everything keeps breaking i.e. lifts, locks on front doors, balcony doors have a gap in them etc.

If there is one thing you would change about your flat or property what would it be:

Having a different supplier for the lifts as they’re awful.

I love living here; I love the style of the flats, I love that there’s a gym (even though Covid means we can’t use it at the moment) and that there’s outdoor space to enjoy. I think the communal area is great, and I just think the whole place has been designed so well and all with such purpose. It’s modern, clean, easy to maintain. It isn’t going to look dull and aged like other developments close by that really do look haggard (I looked at a lot of places before this one!). And I have to say that the properties are expertly managed; whenever I have had an issue it has been sorted straight away. The team is lovely, so eager to help and great at what they do. They’ve been so supportive throughout Covid as well. I used to live alone and a friend was moving to Southampton and so we decided to live together; but I insisted that I wanted to stay in this development. She looked around at other places just to be sure and agreed that this was the best place to rent. If anyone is considering moving to Southampton or looking for a new place to rent in the area; I honestly could not recommend Bow Square enough.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

The area the development is situated in is perfect; it’s a 10 minute walk to the marina and a few minutes’ walk into the city centre. It’s easy to take the bus to work or even a coach into London. It’s not directly in the centre of the hustle and bustle but close enough to walk into it, making it perfect to get to the shops, of which there are most of the major brands, and all the restaurants – you can find big chains and smaller, great restaurants too.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

There’s honestly not one thing I wish I’d known – the team is so honest and open about everything. And I really can’t think of anything bad that has surprised me since living here.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Whenever I have had an issue, they have dealt with it immediately. I’ve never had such quick responses in rentals before. Even through Covid times, they have gone above and beyond.

Okay place to live but definitely overpriced

Review Date Feb 2021

The facilities are good with the gym and pool table.
However, rent is overpriced, it’s ventilation system requires 24h use so your electricity bill increases and the appliances, particularly the dishwasher and washing machine/dryer are subpar. They dont clean very well.

You also cannot get the typical internet providers, you have to choose from a select unknown network thats about GBP 90 pcm

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Close to Marina and shops. Easy to bike around and convenient location

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

You cannot get the standard internet services that are cheaper than the ones allowed

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

It was responded promptly and quickly. But fixing it was definitely a different story

Really good experience, the city at your doorstep

Verified Resident

Overall had a really good experience living at Bow Square. The staff are really lovely to speak to and are super helpful, the flats are well sized with good amenities, good communal areas downstairs like pool table and free gym with good equipment for general fitness. Only criticism which could bring it to 5 star overall is the response time to when things need repairing with the building, had issues with the elevators not working for long periods and some internal building issues (stairs and paint), but if more regular checks are done to spot and act on any maintenance issues quickly, would happily give 5 stars.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Really good location less than a 5 minute walk from the West Quay, lots of small local supermarkets nearby with larger superstores a little further out. Bus connections are just outside and there’s plenty of restaurants and takeaways at your doorstep.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Storage space is very limited within the apartment, for things that you could maybe keep in a garage or roofspace. If you have a bed you can put things under then great, but otherwise you’ve got about one closets worth of storage

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Any internal issues we’ve had with our apartment have been dealt with super promptly as the building has dedicated maintenance team.

Beautiful city centre

The flat itself is lovely, currently living in a 2 bedroom. Communal areas are regularly cleaned, only downside is the lifts tend to be always broken. Security seems to be an issue especially with the bike sheds. But overall I would recommend to rent here.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Great location close to the main high street in Southampton. Closest local shop is Coop about 5 minute walk away. Red Funnel is around 5-10 minute walk away. C

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wouldn’t say there is anything I wished I knew before I moved in.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Very quick and responsive when called/emailed and on it as soon as they can.

Unique but falls short

Verified Resident

Review Date Feb 2021

I love the idea that it’s a full inbuilt community. Unfortunately Covid prevented much opportunity to take advantage of it. The offices and lounge area are very unique for properties in Southampton and also the pet friendly policy is a real bonus and again unique.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

It’s ideal location
For town centre and ocean village

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That it’s an automatic rent increase with no negotiation.

If there is one thing you would change about your flat or property what would it be:

The lifts were often out of order, the price to park should be included and generally for the finish and size of apartments it’s overpriced. The hot water system and heating are not good.

Good private rent property

Review Date Feb 2021

A very modern apartment with all you need in it. The only problem is the lift that doesn’t work sometimes. But maintenance team and reception are always available to help. The building is children and pet friendly.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

I love everything about the area, very close to the city centre, local shops and easy access to transport links.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Lift going on and off

If there is one thing you would change about your flat or property what would it be:

The only thing I would change is the lift. It will be better if it’s more stable.

I highly recommend this!!

Verified Resident

The building is quite new and there are many facilities like studying room, lounge and gym but unfortunately it had been closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. They have a nice common garden for the tenants. I highly recommend this place especially for those people who are looking for highly secure property.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

I’ve been living there for about three months. The location is superable, 10 min by walk to the westquey shopping center and 2-3 min to the bus stop, there are many supermarkets like Tesco and Lidle just next by. Easily to commute from to the uni by using U1A. However, the price is quite high compared to other building and one of the staff is quite unfriendly then I decided to deal with her colleagues whose more friendly and welcoming.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

I wich know that I can change the electricity provider because they didn’t tell me that and as I’m an international person I don’t know about it.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

I didn’t have any problem with them. I remember once I asked them for the water reading and they forgot to respond and then I emailed them as a gentle reminder and they replied at the same day.

Great place, prices not fixed accordingly.

Review Date Feb 2021

Place is great and full of facilities (you pay accordingly). However, many of these places are closed because of Covid since the first wave and the management haven’t offered a fixed rent for their residents. This adds little human value from their side.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

If you like the vividly experience of the city centre, this is your place. Everything is 2 mins away.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

They respond within 24 hours and they have a great team of technicians always available.

Great location, not so good for privacy

Verified Resident
Verified Resident
Review Date Feb 2021

My apartment is a one bedroom with a balcony that’s quite small, although the door is nice to be left open and brings in a lot of light. On the complex you can see into the garden area which obviously causes a lot of people being able to look into your apartment so if you’re looking for something private be prepared to have the blinds shut a lot.

Please tell us what you like and dislike about this area:

Location is fantastic, love the gym and other residents.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Stylish unfurnished apartments with great residents

If there is one thing you would change about your flat or property what would it be:

Be prepared for not much privacy as the inward looking flats have all the other flats looking inside.
