River Thames at dusk

The Nine Elms regeneration project

The award for ‘most dramatic transformation’ goes to Nine Elms, a long slither of Thames riverfront between Lambeth Bridge and Chelsea Bridge. Here, glossy new-build apartment blocks are ten-a-penny, but it’s not just the residential scene that’s getting a facelift.  New offices, infrastructure, transport and entertainment hubs – among many other initiatives – are part of this £15 billion renovation scheme.

Brixton

Just south of the sparkling skyscrapers of SW8, urban cool can be found in edgy Brixton and Clapham. The lively pubs, bars and music venues (don’t miss Hootananny) in these parts promise a night out to remember; and there’s plenty in the way of kitsch brunch spots to help with that sore head the next day. Area newcomers should head to Brixton Village and Brixton Market, where the community spirit is infectious, and the round-ups include taste-tingling street food and local performers. Next door Stockwell is quieter but not without its charms. Dubbed ‘Little Portugal’, it’s home to a large Portuguese population, and its cafés and eateries serve up all kinds of national delicacies.

Old Mansion in South London

Affluent South West London

Northern postcodes like SW1, SW3 and SW7 appeal to those who like to live la dolce vita. Ticking off upmarket neighbourhoods such as Westminster, Belgravia, Chelsea and South Kensington, it’s where house prices are in the millions and the residential scenery is quintessential London. Think timeless Victorian townhouses, black wrought-iron gates and immaculate garden squares.

Nappy Valley

Further south, you’ll find greener boroughs like Wandsworth and Wimbledon; both of which regularly top polls of London’s best places to live. Wandsworth is well-known as ‘Nappy Valley’, such is the draw for families here. Wandsworth Common and King George’s park are prime picnic and playing territory, and the local schools have a decent reputation. That said, the area’s younger population is also rising steadily; a result of the brand-new luxury waterfront apartments, an easy commute to Victoria and Waterloo, and a fabulous wining and dining scene. This savvy lot also knows it’s a lot cheaper to live in Wandsworth than it is to live in Fulham; just across the river.

Putney

East of Wandsworth lies pretty Putney, a delightful mix of riverside restaurants and cafés, swathes of green and period properties. The area’s many sporting clubs (tennis, golf, rowing – it’s all present and correct) will suit outdoorsy types, while nearby Roehampton University pulls in the students. As such, the waterfront bars come alive after dark.

Universities in South West London

As one of the most desirable parts of London to live in, the South West is a major draw for students wishing to combine studies with a great lifestyle. Imperial College London is perhaps the best-known, but Roehampton, Kingston and St Mary’s Twickenham are all extremely popular options. See our in-depth guide to universities in the South West of London for more.

Best schools in the South West of London

The Tiffin schools in Kingston top the list of the best-performing schools in the area, with Sutton and the London Oratory also achieving impressive results. See our full guide to the best schools in South West London for more details.

Things to do in South West London

The staff are great, friendly and welcoming and supportive

Review Date Mar 2024

Open spaces are pleasant with open views of the buildings best surroundings, a lot of thought has obviously been given in regards to the views over the river Wandle, but the arrangement of niches and separate seating also creates lots of intimate places to sit and chat or read.

Please review your development:

The development is obviously new,but despite that the shared spaces are to a very high standard and the developers have obviously made a great attempt to build spaces that create a sense of community and connection.
The gym, laundry and cinema spaces are also to a high standard and easy to use.
The staff are great, friendly and welcoming and supportive.
The site is situated a couple of minutes from the station and the high street, for the price and for London, I don’t think you could get better

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

You will need a cable to access terestal tv -should you want to that is, otherwise the WiFi is very sound if you just want to stream or use your computer

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Yes, luckily I haven’t had many, but very attentive and quick responses

Ok but some improvements could still be possible

Local shops and bars good. Could be closer to a larger supermarket as nearest large one is Lidl or Sainsbury’s, over a mile away. But I am happy to walk.
Transport links sometimes ropey. Could perhaps be closer to a tube station as taking Wimbledon Park means I get into central London door to door in an hour, including the walk to the station. Trains at weekends often not that good and buses unreliable into centre too. Or could do with being slightly closer to central London.
Next to Trainline but doesn’t bother me too much. The glazing here is ok!
Other than that, nice location.

Please review your development:

Building and facilities are good. However in the kitchens, could do with some additional utensils or perhaps invest in minimal basic ingredients- if budget to do so.
Design could be a little improved as those on the East side have to walk across the terrace to get to the communal kitchen. This means transporting freshly cooked food outside and then up into the lift if using the main ovens there. I prefer to use the main n ovens over my microwave oven in my apartment.
Would be even better if we could have ovens in the apartments.
Otherwise, facilities and equipments in the apartments is ok. Would like some sort of storage holder in the shower though, this could be something to consider.
Concierge service could be improved. I had one delivery which was supposed to be signed for. Send the pin to the desk a day ahead of when it was needed. It was an urgent parcel. Concierge did not see the message and this subsequently led to me missing my parcel and having it eventually delivered successfully two days later. We did also have an issue with water in the building in January which meant no access to water for a few days within our apartments. Although this was available in the communal areas, this is not the sort of thing I am expecting with the costs that I am paying. No compensation offered either.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Earlsfield is fairly isolated from central London regarding transport links

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

There was the water issue back in Jan, as mentioned above, which was not rectified for a few days and no compensation given.
I also damaged one of the hobs in the communal kitchen area- this was accidental and I reported it immediately. This was not looked into until around 4 weeks later, for which I was surprised to see I was still liable for the damage for. It seems, as it had taken so long to have it replaced, that no one else had reported it and I had done so only for good order. Was hoping that, as it was accidental, this may have been covered by the building insurance.

Hi Elle,

Thank you for your detailed feedback.

Your details regarding the design of the building are important to us and we will be sure to share this with the relevant teams.

We take on board your comments made regarding the Community Kitchen and we hope that you benefit from the improvements we are planning to make soon.

The team do their upmost to ensure all special requests are delivered successfully, there are times when deliveries are made when an alternative team member could be covering the desk. We will look into making an improvement going forwards here.

We appreciate that the intermittent water issues in January would have caused some inconvenience, we hope that our regular updates helped you manage this situation in the best possible way. Once again we do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Thank you for your honesty regarding the hob in the community kitchen, we have been in communication with you regarding this and will reach out to you again.

Best wishes
The team at Sunday Mills

The local area is simply perfect from many perspectives. With a diverse demographic mix, it’s vibrant and welcoming. With local amenities, services, restaurants, and exclusive venues all within reach, there’s always something to do. Additionally, the new Battersea area offers various transportation choices, facilitating travel in any direction. The area is peaceful, and I highly recommend it.

Living in Bloom building has been nothing short of a magnificent experience. From the moment I step through the doors after a long day’s work, I’m greeted with a sense of ease and comfort that permeates every corner of the building. The amenities are truly outstanding, offering flexibility and the ability to tailor my experience to suit my needs perfectly.

The spacious and well-designed apartment layout optimizes every inch of space, providing both functionality and comfort. It’s a joy to come home to such a well-appointed living space.

However, what truly sets this place apart is the exceptional staff. They are not only incredibly kind but also always available to assist with any request. Their dedication to creating a welcoming and supportive community is evident in every interaction, making me feel truly valued and at home.
In summary, there’s no better place to live.

I feel fortunate to be a part of it!
