Hammersmith & Fulham treads the line between peaceful riverside community and thriving commercial hub. And it does so with style. Down by the Thames, it’s all about leafy walks and cosy roasts in authentic boozers. Away from the water, though, the pace picks up. Hammersmith central is the HQ of major companies like Disney and L’Oréal, so on weekdays, expect hordes of commuting professionals dashing in and out of the high streets’ coffee shops.

Hammersmith & Fulham nightlife

The area brags one of West London’s most exciting after-dark scenes. Hammersmith, in particular, has great live music venues, which welcome a mix of well-known and up-and-coming artists. The most iconic is undoubtedly the Apollo, an entertainment institution that welcomes everyone from Paul Weller to Russell Brand to the stage. Meanwhile, in Fulham, there are immaculate, bloom-cloaked gastropubs and chic wine bars at every turn.

Shopping in the area

Residents have lots of retail choice here. Hammersmith & Fulham has a handful of shopping centres, including Fulham Broadway and Kings Mall. There’s no competing with nearby Westfields, though – this colossal Shepherds Bush mall has around 250 classic department stores, high street brands and designer boutiques. Alternatively, there’s pretty Brackenbury Village for established independents with character.

Schools and parks

Elsewhere, Hammersmith & Fulham boasts top private schools and plentiful parkland. A family favourite is Fulham’s Bishops Park, which counts tennis courts, a sculpture garden and a man-made beach among its facilities. Hammersmith’s waterfront Furnivall Gardens is another popular spot – especially for picnics and sunbathing in the summer months.

Good connections

Lastly, the area is extremely well located. Hammersmith benefits from four lines split between two stations – Circle, District, Piccadilly and Hammersmith & City. As for Fulham, it’s serviced by three tube stations, all of which are on the District line. To give you an idea of what’s where – you can reach Piccadilly Circus from the borough in 16 minutes, Victoria in 20, and Kings Cross in 24. Plus, the borough is close to the A4 and M4 – ideal for when it’s time to escape the capital.
